About
Reasoning by analogy is comfortable and efficient for everyday problems... it lets us build on what others have done without reinventing everything. But, it often carries forward hidden flaws, outdated constraints, and unnecessary complexity. Over time, layers of tradition and compromise obscure the core problem, making genuine breakthroughs rare.
Thinking from first principles is necessary because it allows us to escape the limitations imposed by conventional wisdom, inherited assumptions, and reasoning by analogy. Most progress in human thought and innovation stalls when people accept existing solutions as given and merely tweak them incrementally
This method is mentally demanding and time-intensive.
I believe that if a comprehensive knowledge base were built entirely around first principles thinking, it would be very useful. Elon Musk wants to do this using Grokipedia, but it's definitely lacking. This blog is my attempt at creating something similar. It would, of course, be far smaller in scale, but it might still be useful.
